Kyiv's bridges over the Dnipro - Metro and Patona - are officially recognized as "inoperable". This was stated by transport expert Dmytro Bespalov.
According to him, in the event of an emergency situation on the Metro bridge, it will be about the actual construction of a new bridge or the restoration of the existing one.
The Metro Bridge has been in operation since 1965. During the inspection, the government commission found that one of the ropes of the bridge broke, after which the load-carrying capacity of the bridge decreased - the structure prohibited the movement of freight transport.
The expert noted that the Paton bridge can only be officially restored or repaired, because it has the status of an architectural monument. Major repairs or reconstruction are prohibited on such facilities, which complicates repair work.
But the Metro bridge is not a tourist attraction and it can be overhauled.
"But in the event of an emergency, we will talk about actually building a new bridge or rebuilding it. As long as we think we can solve bridge repairs, I'm very much afraid that it might actually solve a case. That is, when we have something working that is classified as inoperable, we should not be surprised by the fact that it may stop working tomorrow," Bespalov said.
He noted that usually bridges that are being repaired try not to close them completely, but to carry out work on one part of it. However, with Kyiv bridges, the situation may be different due to structural features.
An anonymous source in the Cabinet of Ministers said that repair work on the emergency bridges of Kyiv can begin after the launch of the Podilsky Bridge.
Kyiv is actively completing the construction of the Podilsko-Voskresensky Bridge. I think as soon as they start normal traffic on it, they will start closing the bridges for major repairs," it said.
