Latvia is completely ready to disconnect from the Russian power system and plans to synchronize with the European network. The shutdown should take place on February 8-9, and the country is already in a state of increased readiness due to possible provocations.
Latvia President Edgar Rinkevich emphasized that all bodies and companies responsible for electricity supplies are ready for this operation during a press conference. He also noted that the likelihood of provocations from the Russian Federation cannot be rejected.
“We cannot reject any provocation. That is why the Latvian and foreign security bodies are in a state of increased readiness, ”Rinkevich said. He added that he understands the concern of citizens and business, but considers this step important for the country's energy independence.
In particular, the President noted that despite possible misinformation campaigns and other unpleasant situations, synchronization with the EU energy system is an important step to strengthen energy security.
