Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently made another statement that became a new stage in the Kremlin's propaganda rhetoric. Lavrov claims that about 50 countries of the world are allegedly intended to "destroy Russia", creating a dependent and controlled space in its territory.
The Minister voiced these words during his speech to students and teachers of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MDIMV). Lavrov emphasized that the West seems to want to turn Russia into a weak and dying area where you can dictate its conditions. According to him, it was for this purpose that a "coalition from about 50 countries" was collected, which is allegedly trying to dismember Russia.
This rhetoric is not new to the Kremlin. Even before the full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Vladimir Putin regularly accused the event of the desire to weaken Russia. After the start of the war, these abstracts became one of the main excuses for aggression against Ukraine. In February 2023, similar statements were heard from the former President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev, who stated that if Moscow stopped the war in Ukraine, Russia would allegedly break into parts.
However, such accusations are constantly refuted by Western leaders. In February 2023, US President Joe Biden stressed that the West did not intend to destroy or control Russia. He noted that the US and Europe have never planned to attack Russia, and the purpose of the event was to protect Ukraine from aggression.
The British Foreign Minister James Kleverly also stressed that the West does not seek to destroy Russia but tries to help Ukraine complete the war in Putin. He added that Ukraine's support is aimed at restoring peace and security in the region.
Such statements of Lavrov look like an attempt to strengthen domestic mobilization and unite the population of Russia against the background of international isolation and economic sanctions.
