Abu Mohammad Al-Galani, the leader of the Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham group, in his interview with CNN on December 6, stated that the main purpose of Syrian rebels remains the overthrow of Bashar Assad regime and the creation of new, democratic Syria. According to him, this involves the formation of a government based on institutions where decisions will be made by the chosen council.
Al-Galani, also known as Ahmed Al-Sharaa, emphasized the change in the group of group, which has roots in the Syrian branch of Al-Qaeda. He stressed that Hayat Tahrir Ash-Sham seeks to distance himself from the extremist practices of the past, focusing on building a transparent management system.
Al-Galani stated that his views have evolved significantly, and now he was open to dialogue with minorities. In particular, he assured that Christians and other ethnic and religious groups can live safely under the management of new government.
