Lithuanians are leaders in supporting the expansion of the European Union

The Lithuanians found the highest level of support for the accelerated admission of new members to the European Union, according to the last survey. According to the research, 72% of Lithuanian citizens expressed a positive attitude to the EU expansion, thereby setting a record among all member states of the Union.

Poland, Ireland, Croatia and Spain were also among the leaders with the support of the expansion ideas, where 68%were indicators. On the other hand, countries that have shown less support include the Czech Republic (37%), Slovakia (40%), Austria and Cyprus (41%), as well as Germany (43%).

The Lithuanians also demonstrated the highest level of enthusiasm for the European Union, where 94% of respondents consider EU membership beneficial to their country, which is the highest indicator among other Union countries. Among the key benefits of membership is the contribution to peace and security (43%), economic growth (41%) and new employment opportunities (37%).

It is noted that in general, citizens of EU countries have found a slightly greater optimism regarding their standard of living compared to six months because it may be associated with events such as the Covid-19 pandemic, war in Ukraine and inflation. These data were obtained within the Eurobarmerometer - an international project of regular public opinion surveys under the auspices of the European Commission.
