Lithuania will not allow OSCE observers to the presidential elections

In early April this year, the Organization for Security and Co -operation in Europe (OSCE) refused to observe the election in Lithuania. The organization explained that the country demanded to exclude some representatives from the observers, but this condition was not accepted.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the OSCE invited the OSCE to watch the elections, but without the participation of representatives from Russia and Belarus. They believe that the invitation of such countries would be a contradiction of democracy.

"Lithuania, in accordance with international obligations, invited representatives of the Bureau on Democratic Institutes and Human Rights of the OSCE and the OSCE countries, except for Russia and Belarus, to observe the elections," the country's Foreign Ministry said.

The Ministry stressed that this policy of international isolation of regimes of Russia and Belarus is a key component of Lithuania's foreign and domestic policy.

The presidential election in Lithuania will take place on May 12. The competition will participate in eight candidates, including the current President of Hitanas Naused, who claims for the second term and Prime Minister Ingrid Shimonite.
