IAEA supports the expansion of the Khmelnitsky NPP

The decision to complete the construction of two nuclear power units at the Khmelnytsky NPP is wise for Ukraine. This was stated by the CEO of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Raphael Grosssey after a visit to one of the energy substations in Ukraine on Tuesday, February 4.

"We believe that in the case of Ukraine is a wise decision, because, as we see today, nuclear energy has become a spine that supported the country's economy during a very difficult period, the most difficult that any country can survive," he said, "he said.

Grossi recalled that the blocks of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Station are highly readiness and have already made considerable effort and investment.

The IAEA head assured that the agency is ready to provide the necessary technical support in the process of implementation of the project and has already started work in this direction.

"The agency, of course, is ready, and we have already started some analytical work on specific areas where we could provide the safety assessment of this project," Grossi said.

In his turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also emphasized the importance of completing the units and called on the Verkhovna Rada to make the necessary decisions as soon as possible.

"We have talked about two blocks today that can be added to our atomic generation. It will really be a big contribution to the stability of the country's grid.
