French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that European "forces" will be located in Ukraine in the case of a peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow. He reported this on the results of the Summit of the Coalition of those who took place in Paris on March 27.
According to Macron, these forces are still in the planning stage, but they will not perform the functions of peacekeepers in the classical sense. The French leader stressed that Russia has no right to dictate what will happen in Ukraine.
Macron said that the European forces will not be placed on the front line, but instead will act in "strategic areas". Details of their locations and tasks are still being discussed.
"We have agreed on this (contingents - ed.), And we will work on it. Yes, there will be forces with the participation of a number of European countries, and these forces will be deployed in Ukraine," Macron said.
He also stressed that not all EU countries are ready to join this initiative, but "we do not need unanimity to achieve it."
In order to determine the specific needs of Ukraine, there should be a meeting of British and French headquarters with Ukrainian military representatives in the near future.
In addition to the posting forces, the summit also decided to instruct foreign ministers to develop proposals for monitoring ceasefire in Ukraine. For this purpose it was set aside for three weeks.
Macron's initiative testifies to Europe's readiness to play a more active role in Ukraine's security. However, the implementation of this plan will largely depend on the further development of events at the front and international support.
