US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the issue of European sanctions against Russia would be an important aspect of any future negotiations with the Russian side to cease fire in Ukraine. According to him, this issue "will be on the table" during such negotiations, and no less significant topic can be frozen assets of the Russian Federation.
"Europeans have imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation, and I assume that in any negotiations-if we hope, we will come to them-with the Russians they will raise the issues of these European sanctions imposed on them," Rubio said.
The Secretary of State stressed that in order to achieve peace in Ukraine, Europeans have to decide on sanctions imposed against Russia. "It is clear that in order for peace in Ukraine, at the end of this process, Europeans have to make some decision as to what they are going to do with these sanctions," he added.
In addition, Rubio noted that "there are also all sorts of promises for the security that European countries have made Ukraine", which, in his opinion, will also become part of future negotiations.
