Merz offers a ceasefire before negotiating with Russia

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has proposed that before negotiating with Russia, an agreement to cease fire in Ukraine should be reached. He made this statement after meeting with the US Vice President, Jay Die Vance at the Munich Conference on Security.

Merz noted that both politicians agree that Russia's war against Ukraine should end as soon as possible. He stressed that the achievement of long peace is possible only if close cooperation between America and Europe.

"I suggested that the ceasefire in Ukraine would be a step to strengthen confidence before negotiating with Russia," the German politician added.

This statement was made against the background of the international situation, where the issue of security in Europe is of particular importance due to a long war in Ukraine. At the same time, the United States Vice president, Jay Die V, who stated the possibility of sanctions or even hostilities against Moscow if Russia disagrees a peace agreement with Ukraine, also spoke at the Munich Conference.

Merz's proposal is another stage in search of a diplomatic solution to the conflict, but it is still unknown whether it will be supported internationally.
