The former German Chancellor Angela Merkel commented on the managerial style of Donald Trump, highlighting the key problem, which, in her opinion, complicates cooperation with him at the international level.
Merkel noted that Trump holds the view that in any conflict or interaction, one party always wins and the other loses. This approach, according to her, makes it unyielding in matters of cooperation and compromise.
"Donald Trump does not believe in mutually beneficial cooperation between countries. He believes that there should always be only one winner. This complicates working with him as with the President of the US, compared to other heads of state," Merkel explained.
One example of this approach was the threat of Trump against NATO Allies during his first presidential term. He has repeatedly stated that the United States could refuse military support to those member countries of the Alliance, who are not fundamentally funded.
Nevertheless, Merkel said Trump would realize the importance of NATO for the United States.
"I hope that the chosen President Trump will realize that NATO not only protects Europe with the support of the US and Canada, but also that partnership with Europe is profitable and for the United States themselves," Merkel said.
