The Mexican resort town of Akapulko was on the verge of chaos after a powerful hurricane Otis. The city was faced with large -scale looting cases. 17,000 soldiers and police officers were deployed to restore order.
Hurricane Otis covered the quiet coast on Wednesday, with the winds reaching 266 km/h, and in 12 hours he intensified from the tropical storm into the category of hurricane "five" - the strongest category. Akapulko became one of the most affected regions in Mexico. 80% of the resort hotels are damaged and flooded streets.
To the present moment, the number of deaths from the hurricane, Otis has increased to 39 people - 29 men and 10 women, and at least 10 people are considered missing.
Social networks are filled with videos that showcase the robbery in the affected areas, as product and water supplies are rapidly depleted.
The main road that connects Akapulko to the rest of the country has just been opened, which made it possible to send urgent humanitarian cargo to the city. In the Renasimento area, residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of help.
President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador promised to help restore the city, but he accused his political opponents of exaggerating the scale of plundering in order to discredit his government before the presidential election next year.
Official sources report that Hurricane Otis was the most powerful hurricane who had ever touched the Pacific coast of Mexico, leaving the destruction, which is estimated at billions of dollars.
