The Ministry of Finance does not plan to raise taxes by the end of 2025

There was an urgent need for additional budget filling in Ukraine. However, despite the shortage, the government does not plan to raise taxes for citizens and business in the near future. This was stated by Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko during the Forbes Money forum, reports delo.ua.

A month ago, the authorities assured that there was no budget deficit. However, now the head of the Ministry of Finance acknowledges that by the end of 2025 the budget deficit may reach half a trillion hryvnias. In such a situation, the most obvious step would be to increase taxes, but the government will refrain from this because of low popularity and lack of political support.

Instead, the Ministry of Finance named several alternative ways of increasing budget revenues: restructuring of public debt, improving the administration of existing taxes, shadowing the economy and internal debt borrowings through domestic government bonds (T -bills).

In addition, according to Marchenko, personnel changes in their management will help to increase the efficiency of tax and customs services. However, the minister noted that this is only the first step and the real changes require changes in the philosophy of the work of these bodies, which involves the fight against corruption.

At the same time, the government is counting on the receipt of regular credit tranches from the International Monetary Fund. Technical agreements have already been reached to receive a tranche of $ 0.5 billion, which should be approved by the IMF management. In total, Ukraine plans to receive from the IMF to $ 2.3 billion in 2025 under the Extended Financing Mechanism Program.
