Peace negotiations or diplomatic maneuver? US initiates a meeting in Saudi Arabia

American officials are preparing for separate meetings with representatives of Ukraine and Russia in Saudi Arabia - this will be the first round of such negotiations since the beginning of the war. The White House seeks to reach the ceasefire agreement by April 20, but the differences in the positions of the parties can postpone this process.

Donald Trump's Presidential Administration is actively working on a diplomatic decision on war. The White House Head has repeatedly declared its intention to finish the conflict quickly, and a recent agreement on restricting blows on the energy infrastructure of Ukraine is regarded as the first step in this direction. However, the situation remains tense. Russia has strict demands, including the termination of supplies of Western weapons to Ukraine that Kiev and its allies are categorically rejected. Despite diplomatic initiatives, the war is ongoing. Russian drones continue attacks on Ukrainian cities, in particular, three civilians were killed in Kiev. In response, Ukraine struck military facilities in the Russian Federation. European leaders are concerned about possible concessions in favor of Russia. Lithuania President Hitanas Nauseda emphasizes that Moscow only mimics the negotiation process, using it as a tool for delaying time.

The parties are expected to focus on discussing the 30-day ceasefire and the possible expansion of the armistice for navigation in the Black Sea. However, the prospects for long -term peace remain uncertain, as neither of the parties demonstrates readiness for significant concessions.
