Pro-government forces won the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan

The ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan received leadership in the parliamentary elections that took place on October 27. According to the Central Election Commission, the Party of Authorities won 64 mandates out of 150 in the lower house of Parliament.

The elections were also attended by several other political forces: the Democratic Party "Milli Tiklanysh" received 29 seats, the "Uzbekistan Ecological Party"-16, the Uzbekistan People's Democratic Party-20, and the Social Democratic Party "Adolat"-21 mandates.

According to the CEC, voter turnout was 74.72%, which is more than 15 million, of which more than 140,000 voted abroad. The highest turnout was recorded in the Fergan region - 75.71%, while the lowest was in Tashkent - 62.39%.

These parliamentary elections have become an important stage for Uzbekistan, which, under the guidance of President Shavkat Mirizoev, proceeds from self -isolation, which lasted for more than 25 years under the authoritarian reign of Islam Karimov. However, the political situation in the country remains closed, and the opportunities for pluralism and criticism of the authorities are significantly narrowed.

Over the past 15 years, the same pro -control of political factions that have been adhered to a single key policy in Uzbekistan have won in Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan, with a population of 37 million, maintains close economic ties with Russia, where millions of Uzbek migrant workers work. However, Tashkent retains neutrality in the Russian-Ukrainian war and claims to comply with Western sanctions against Moscow.
