In Poltava region 29 people were illegally held in a psychiatric hospital

In one of the psychiatric institutions, serious violations of human rights were found in one of the psychiatric institutions. There were 29 people there against the will. On May 28, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Dmitry Lubinets announced.

According to him, the violations were detected during the inspection of the institution under the control of the Poltava Regional Council. In a premises where compulsory medical measures were previously used, 29 patients told that they were kept without their consent. They seized personal documents and mobile phones, as well as forced to work for free.

Patients detained were actually isolated from the outside world - without communication with relatives or the possibility of legal protection.

Criminal proceedings are currently opened, investigative actions are underway. Human rights activists require immediate response from the regional authorities and the Ministry of Health.

Society awaits official comments and specific steps to protect patients' rights and hold the perpetrators responsible.
