In Russia, they want to ban the Internet for children

Volodymyr Uiba, the head of the Republic of Komi, made a resonant statement, calling for a ban on the Internet for children in Russia.

At a meeting of the family council of the Russian Federation, Uba spoke about the need to close the Internet for the younger generation, indicating that access to Internet resources contributes to corruption and dependence on porn and games.

"Close. Just once and for all. Because today it is a terrible tragedy ... Children go with their heads on the Internet. Someone becomes gaming, dependent users of any porn," Uiba said. In his opinion, the Internet not only undermines the moral foundations of children, but also leads to dangerous online communication with fake accounts of adults who seem to peers.

Uba also noted that in his "happy childhood in the USSR" there were no such problems and stressed that he would completely close the Internet in Russia, leaving only "professional and scientific Internet". In his opinion, such a measure would bring more benefit to society, although it recognizes the lack of political will to realize this idea. He promised that he would continue to insist on the ban.

This proposal has caused wide discussion and criticism. Opponents claim that a complete ban on the Internet is an unrealistic and radical solution that can significantly limit access to educational resources and information for children and young people. In addition, such a decision can create a precedent for further restriction of freedoms in the digital sphere.

The proposal is reminiscent of the contradictions in the approaches to the regulation of the Internet in Russia and other countries, where the issues of safety in the network and protecting young people from unwanted content continue to be the subject of hot discussions.
