People's deputy from "Servant of the People" Serhiy Nagornyak denied information about a possible accident at the South Ukrainian NPP, which became the subject of media publications and political speculation. According to Nagornyak, the disputes surrounding the disconnection of the transformer near the NPP are groundless and are aimed at undermining the reputation of the state-owned company "Energoatom", which unites 30,000 employees.
"Some deputies and experts are trying to create a problem based on minor incidents, which endangers the reputation of Energoatom," Nagornyak said. He noted that these actions are connected with political games, in particular with the intention to prevent consideration of the draft law on the completion of the construction of two new power units at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
The deputy emphasized that existing technical problems at nuclear power plants should not be called accidents. He also noted that fakes and misinformation about accidents are actively being spread by Russian public, which only strengthens misinformation in social networks.
Nagornyak emphasized that in mid-July, when one of the transformers at the South Ukrainian NPP failed due to extreme heat, it led to a temporary disconnection of the plant from the network. However, this situation was correctly assessed by the Ministry of Energy, the State Inspection for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine and the IAEA, which confirmed that it was not an accident, but an ordinary technical outage.
