The smallest city in the world that is worth seeing

Hum, located in Croatia, is not only the smallest town in the world, but also a real treasure for history lovers and unique cultural traditions. The town, which is located on the hills of Istria, in the territory of only 100 by 30 meters, has a population of only 52 people, which makes it unsurpassed in size in the world.

Hum has a rich historic background. Its roots date back to the Middle Ages, and the first mention of the city ("Hill") appeared in the documents of the XII century. Local folklore even attributes its foundation to the giants, which seemed to have built a settlement of stones collected along the Valley of the Mirna River.

The town consists of two charming paved streets and three terrace structures that look as if they were transferred from a fairy tale. The tall walls of ancient defense structures, which houses small stone houses, add a special charm. There is also a guard tower, a bell tower and a loggia that add even more historical context. Despite its tinyness, Hum is also famous for its cultural traditions, in particular, the production of famous alcohol - Biska. It is a fruit brandy made on the basis of mistletoe, which has more than 2000 years of history and, according to local legends, was a recipe for Celtic Druids. Every year, at the end of October, the festival is held in the Hum, during which local masters compete for the title of the creator of the best home -made alcohol. Another interesting tradition is the choice of the prefect of the city. Every year, in June, men gather in the Town Hall, where they choose a person responsible for resolving disputes and supporting peace among local residents. This rite gives the town a special charming color.

Hum, despite its small population, is an important tourist object. Its ancient architecture, picturesque landscapes and unique traditions attract travelers from all over the world. For those who seek to plunge into the atmosphere of past eras and get acquainted with Croatian folklore, Hum is the perfect place to visit.
