The recent successful offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the territory of the Kursk region of Russia has become not only a military sensation, but also a political alarm for Western allies of Ukraine. The well -known military analyst and retired colonel of the British Army Richard Camp in the author's article for The Telegraph emphasizes that this step exposes not only the weakness of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, but also the false decisions of Western allies, who, in fact, actually stop Ukraine.
Camp notes that the offensive in Kursk not only humiliated the Russian dictator, but also became a clear proof of the cowardice of Western allies of Ukraine. "Putin said to his officials: 'The West is fighting with us the hands of Ukrainians." If so, they continue to be tied behind the back of Kiev, "he writes, pointing that Western countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, have imposed restrictions on the use of Ukrainian weapons.
In particular, Camp criticizes the British government for refusing to allow the use of winged Storm Shadow missiles to strikes Russian reinforcements, and forbade the use of ATACMS missiles, which is a similar situation to the fact that it would become unthinkable during World War II. "It was a pathetic story throughout the war, when Western allies were producing policy not on the basis of Ukraine's vital defensive needs, but from the unjustified fear of Russian revenge," the analyst emphasizes.
It is important to note that the success of the Ukrainian military in the Kursk region was possible because Russia has significantly weakened its defense in this territory, directing all resources to fight in Ukraine. According to Campa, this is a direct consequence of the restrictions imposed by Western allies to use Ukrainian weapons. "How could it be in a country that is fighting with its neighbor? It was possible only because Putin knew that his territory remains virtually invulnerable to attack due to restrictions on the use of Ukrainian weapons," he explains.
Now that Ukraine is already controlling more than a thousand square kilometers of the Russian territory, Putin, according to Campa, has not used nuclear weapons against Kiev. This suggests that if Ukraine was allowed to act more aggressive from the outset, the conflict could be closer to its completion on the conditions favorable to Kiev.
Camp summarizes that this sensational victory in Kursk can be a turning point, but time will tell if it is not too late to use this opportunity. According to other analysts, including the former US ambassador to John Sullivan, freezing the conflict on the current collision line can be the most realistic result if Western allies do not review their support for Ukraine support.
In this context, the situation in the Kursk region becomes a symbol of the struggle not only for Ukraine for its future, but also in Western countries in order not to lose its influence on the global arena at a critical moment of world policy.
