Violence in Haiti: More than 2,500 victims of unrest

In the period from January to March this year, Haiti's situation is becoming more intense due to the increase in violence by criminal groups. According to the organization published, more than 2500 people were killed or injured, which is 53% more than in the corresponding period last year.

The figures show that most of the victims refer to police operations, where at least 590 people were killed. Of these, some were not involved in bandit violence, and some had physical restrictions. The other 141 people were killed by the so -called "justice groups".

Most of the violence took place in the capital of Haiti, Port-Prince, but also a significant number of cases occurred in the Western Department and Artbonite. The biggest attacks occurred in the port areas of the capital, La-Salini and Site Sales. Sexual violence against women and girls remains a problem both in conflict areas and institutions for forced displaced persons and prisons.

At least 22 police buildings were attacked or destroyed as a result of disorder, and 19 police were killed or injured. Blocked supply routes only exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in the country.

The United Nations reports that hundreds of thousands of people have become displaced by the actions of criminal groups. However, the United States and the Dominican Republic continue to deport migrants back on Haiti.

It is important to note that on March 1, several areas of the capital took place, which was organized by gangs to remove Prime Minister Ariel Henry. This led to the escape of hundreds of prisoners imprisoned in port.

The Haiti government was forced to declare a state of emergency and introduce a curfew after the event. The capital is siege after criminal groups have taken control of most of the city.

We will remind, earlier the UN reported more than 1,500 dead since the beginning of the year due to the actions of bandit groups in Haiti.
