The National Bank of Ukraine has announced the withdrawal of coins of various denominations issued by 2003. This decision is made to optimize the nominal series of banknotes of the country. However, it is unlikely that you can get rich on such coins: because of their mass and materials from which they are made, these coins are not collective or valuable for numismatics.
The list of coins to be removed from circulation includes:
- 1 penny;
- 2 pennies;
- 5 cents;
- 25 cents.
Although the exact date of withdrawal has not yet been determined, the NBU notes that these coins can be exchanged at the hryvnia until the end of martial law in Ukraine, as well as within three months after its completion.
The editor of the numismatic site "Moneti-Jedka" Vitaliy Tkach indicates that it will not be possible to get rich on these coins because they were released by large circulations and simple materials. He explains that value has only precious metals, such as silver or gold, or rare specimens. "Ordinary coins, even if stored for decades, do not become valuable because of their prevalence and accessibility," Tkach said.
According to the expert, even centuries coins do not always cost big money if it is mass circulation coins.
Despite the mass of most cents, some old Ukrainian coins can still be a real find for numismatists. Yes, certain rare variants of coins of 1 hryvnia, for which collectors are ready to pay thousands of hryvnias, are considered collection. This is because such specimens have unique characteristics or released by limited edition.
