The editors of one of the largest and most influential newspapers in the USA, the New York Times, announced their support for Kamala Harris in the upcoming presidential elections. In the editorial column of the publication, she was called "the only patriotic choice" for the country, which caused a wide resonance in the political environment.
Trump, according to the newspaper, "will degrade values, challenge norms and destroy the institutions that have made our country strong." He is accused of wanting to cut taxes for the rich and be "friends with autocrats" like Putin and Orban.
"This unequivocal, depressing truth - Donald Trump is unfit to be president - should be enough for any voter who cares about the health of our country and the stability of our democracy to deny him re-election," the article reads.
At the same time, the newspaper points to a shortcoming of the Harris campaign. She is "shielded from difficult questions" from reporters and is betting mostly on being "the only viable alternative to Mr. Trump."
Such tactics could undermine Harris' claims that she represents a "capable new generation ready to take the reins of power into their own hands."
