Germany has launched a new political stage with the government headed by Friedrich Mary, but the results of the latter survey have shown that most citizens of the country are not satisfied with his appointment as a chancellor. According to DeutschlandTrend survey data for ARD, about 60% of Germans have a negative or restrained attitude towards a new country leader.
The survey data showed that only 32% of respondents consider Mertz a good choice for the post of chancellor. Most - 59% - consider it not sufficiently suitable for this important political role. It was noted that only 4% of the Germans rated the new government as "very positive", and 38% gave a "positive" assessment. At the same time, 48% consider the new government not successful.
Among the members of the new government, the largest rating was received by Boris Pistorius, the Minister of Defense of Germany. 73% of respondents were approved by its reassignment, making it one of the most popular politicians in the government. Other ministers, including ministers of finance, work and internal affairs, have received less positive grades, and only a small number of citizens have been approved for their appointments.
These results are an important alarm for the government because they show that the support of the new Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and his government initiatives is not as highly popular as it was in the government of Olaf Scholz in 2021. Compared to the previous government, the support of the new political course is much lower, which can be an indication of difficulties in shaping an effective coalition and satisfying public expectations.
German society is currently divided in the estimates of the new government, and Friedrich Merz and his team will need to work to improve their support among citizens.
