The German authorities have imposed sanctions against high -law officials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, banning entering them into the country. This is reported by Formula News with reference to their sources.
On December 31, 2024, Germany introduced visa restrictions for nine people who are accused of violence against protesters and opposition representatives in Georgia.
The sanction list included:
- Vakhtang Gomelauri - Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia;
- Siradze weigh - the head of the Patrol Police Department;
- Gazada Harazishvili - Head of the Department of Special Tasks;
- Mirza Kesevadze - Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs;
- Timiraas Kupatadze - Criminal Police Head;
- Lasha Dzhadze - Head of the Main Directorate of Patrol Police;
- Timiraz Kalandadze - Kakhetii Police Head;
- Lasha Salukvadze-Head of Vake-Saburtalo Police Department;
- Dito Samharadze is a deputy of Parliament from the ruling party "Georgian Dream".
The sanctions were imposed in response to reports of human rights violations during protests in Georgia. In particular, it is about the use of force against protesters and oppression of the opposition. Visa restrictions are part of Germany's broader measures on pressure on Georgian authorities to comply with democratic norms.
