Norway and Ukraine deepen security cooperation

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Garo Star, during which he discussed the expansion of security cooperation between the two countries, as well as the situation at the front and international efforts to reach peace.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of a new American ceasefire initiative and the continuation of Russia's missile and drone attacks on Ukraine's civil infrastructure, in particular - the last blow to Poltava.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine values Norway's position on the need to maintain international pressure on Russia. According to him, this pressure remains one of the main tools to approach peace.

"The path to peace should begin with an unconditional ceasefire - just as the United States suggested, and Ukraine supported this proposal," the President said.

Ukraine has already agreed to a 30-day ceasefire, which will probably become a topic of negotiations at the International Summit in London on April 23, which will also discuss the so-called "final proposal" of the United States to end the war.

Particular attention was paid to the further deepening of security cooperation between Ukraine and Norway. Zelensky stressed that countries have agreed to work together on new formats of defense interaction in multilateral dimensions.

In the light of growing threats in the region, Ukraine increases diplomatic activity among partners of Northern Europe, including in the context of future participation in defense initiatives implemented under the auspices of the EU or through bilateral agreements.

Zelensky also informed the Norwegian premiere about today's shelling of civil infrastructure by Russia. In particular, three people were injured in Poltava as a result of a night attack, residential buildings, enterprises, warehouses and garages were damaged.
