The new US Administration has abandoned fuel consumption standards and electrification strategy

The Minister of Transport of the United States, Sean Daffy, has signed an important memorandum that abolishes the previous New Green Course strategy and cancels Corporate fuel economy (CAFE) established by the previous government. According to the new decree, by 2031, the fuel consumption standard should be 4.67 liters per 100 km, but now this bill is canceled.

Sean Daffy said the abolition of "excessively burdensome standards" would reduce the cost of cars and provide Americans with the opportunity to choose available and diverse transport. He stressed that Americans should be able to choose transport without restrictions that cars can make more expensive and less accessible. It is also worth noting that during Donald Trump's presidency, the CAFE standard was much less harsh, with an average fuel consumption of 6.36 liters per 100 km.

It is not yet clear whether the new administration will introduce new fuel consumption requirements for cars and light commercial cars. Minister Duffy noted that the desire to reduce fuel consumption does not take into account the real oil reserves in the United States, as well as the potential vulnerability of the country's power grid. In addition, he was concerned that US car manufacturers are increasingly forced to rely on imported batteries for electric vehicles, which affects the independence of the national automotive industry. At the same time, Donald Trump abolished the previous strategy, which stipulated that by 2030 the share of electric cars in the US market was to reach 50%. This decision has significantly changed the US Auto Professional Course that has changed its priorities in the last few years.

Automobile manufacturers expressed anxiety about policy instability and urged to leave tax benefits for electric cars, which would help maintain the competitiveness and diversity of the market.
