New standards of justice in times of war

On December 1, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Prosecutor's Office - a professional holiday of people who stand on the guard of law and order. This year, this holiday is of particular importance, because prosecutors have been working in the unprecedented conditions of a full -scale war for more than 1000 days, demonstrating new standards of justice and the indomitable Ukrainian legal system.

During the war, the Ukrainian prosecutor's office performed an incredible amount of work that covers all aspects of justice: registration of more than 144,000 war crimes that have evidence of Russian aggression against Ukraine. The suspicion was reported to the 730s of the Russian Federation, of which 525 cases have already been transferred to court. The condemnation of 137 military criminals, which became a precedent in international legal practice. 64 persons were brought to the Maidan affairs. Prevention of illegal disposal of more than 62,000 hectares of land, which is an important step in protecting state property.

Among the main achievements of the prosecutor's office are the introduction of new approaches, which not only increased the efficiency of work, but also became a model for other countries: special departments for the investigation of war crimes were created. Innovative technologies for collecting evidence and organization of procedural actions have been introduced. Nine coordination centers of support of victims and witnesses providing psychological, legal and social assistance have been opened. Ukraine has become the first country to develop a comprehensive justice system during hostilities. This made it possible to create a platform for documenting war crimes and ensuring that the perpetrators are liable, even in war.

Thanks to active coordination with other law enforcement agencies, as well as international partners, the Ukrainian prosecutor's office was able to effectively integrate its work into the world practice of justice. This not only strengthened Ukraine's position on the legal front, but also made our country a leader in prosecuting war crimes.

Today, on the day of the prosecutor's office, we express gratitude to every prosecutor for their dedication, professionalism and courage. Under the guidance of V.O. Prosecutor General Alexei Khomenko The Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine continues to fight for justice, laying the foundations for restoration of law and order in the postwar period.
