The UAE blocks payments for Chinese equipment to Russia

One of the key channels of supply of Chinese equipment and gadgets to Russia has hit US sanctions, which will seriously affect the electronics market in the Russian Federation. About it reports The Moscow Times.

According to the newspaper, in August 2024, banks of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) began to block payments for electronic components and consumer electronics from the PRC. The UAE, which was previously an important hub for the supply of Chinese goods to Russia, now faces problems because of new sanctions.

Problems began when Dubai banks were refused transactions processing, with which up to 20% of all laptops and about 30% of other Chinese equipment in the Russian market were paid. According to the new rules, banks block payments if electronics from other countries does not come to the UAE.

This step is the result of initiative on the part of the Chinese side, which has taken measures because of the threat of secondary sanctions of the United States. Chinese banks have already undergone such sanctions, and now they are forced to act carefully to avoid further financial restrictions.

The UAE became one of the main hubs to bypass Western technological sanctions, which explains why the banks of this country have become a target for new restrictions. For Russian consumers, this can lead to serious consequences, in particular, to the disappearance of some goods from the market.
