The United Nations Secretary General spokesman stressed the importance of compliance with the sanctions adopted by the Council of Security, in the context of reports of Russia's use of North Korean ballistic missiles for attacks on Ukraine. Stefan Duzharrik declared it, commenting on the supply of rockets from North Korea to the Russian Federation.
"We have condemned the shelling of civilians and civilian infrastructure objects ... It is important that all Member States adhere to the sanctions adopted, and the Security Council has mechanisms for consideration of these issues," the UN Secretary General said.
Noting that the UN is unable to check information about the use of weapons from North Korea or any other country, he stressed that it is a serious matter that needs attention and action.
Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said that since December 30, 2023, Russia has used at least 24 ballistic missiles production of the DPRK for shelling of Ukraine, which led to the death of 14 civilians and wound more than 70.
For almost twenty years, the UN Security Council has adopted eight resolutions that prohibit weapons with North Korea and generally restrict trade operations. Russia has also supported these sanctions, and its compliance is an integral part of the international community.
