The United Nations (UN) made a statement condemning "attacks on civilian objects" in the context of recent fighting between Russia and Ukraine. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, called on both sides of the conflict to "immediate steps on de -escalation."

The statement noted that the alarming escalation of hostilities has led to dozens of killed civilians in Ukraine and Russia. The Supreme Commissioner stressed that international humanitarian law prohibits non -selective attacks and attacks on civilian objects.

The UN calls for the parties to the conflict to take "immediate de -escalation measures", as well as to protect civilians and respect for international law. The statement arose in the context of the latest massive missile attacks of Russia in Ukraine.
