In 2024, there was a significant increase in the number of road accidents (road accidents), which took away people's lives and led to numerous injuries. According to the patrol police, 3202 people were killed as a result of accidents, and another 32,023 were injured. This is 5% more fatal cases and 8.5% more injuries than the previous year, Ukravtoprom reports.
The increase in the number of accidents becomes an alarming signal that requires attention and action from all road users. The most common causes that lead to tragic consequences are speeding, violation of the rules of maneuvering and improper transition of pedestrians.
Exceeding safe speed - this factor caused the death of 1770 people. Excessive speed makes the driver less capable of maneuvering and slowing down the reaction in case of dangerous situations on the road. Violation of the rules of maneuvering - took the lives of 490 people. This is often the case with miscarriage or changing the lane without warning. The transition of pedestrians in unspecified places - led to death 167 people. Pedestrians that violate the rules of crossing the road put their lives at risk. During 2024, 25 781 traffic accidents occurred in Ukraine, in which people were killed or injured. The most common types of accidents were: collision of vehicles - 10 749 cases; Pedestrian hit - 6 877 cases; obstacles - 3 134 cases; transfer of the vehicle - 2 434 cases; Cyclists are 1 502 cases. These figures indicate that traffic in Ukraine remains extremely dangerous, and numerous factors, from the inattention of drivers to violations of pedestrian rules, contribute to the increase in the number of accidents. The Patrol Police of Ukraine repeatedly urges traffic participants to observe the rules, to show care and responsibility. Drivers should avoid speeding, especially in settlements and in dangerous areas of roads, and pedestrians should cross the road only in the places installed for this purpose and be careful even at pedestrian crossings.
Transport injuries continue to grow, and only by joint efforts can we change this trend by making the roads safer for everyone.
