Despite the protests of the citizens, the deputies of Georgia approved the bill "On transparency of foreign influence" in the third reading. This decision was made by Parliament on May 14. The bill, which is also known as the Law on "Inaging, has become the object of comparison with similar law in Russia.
Although tens of thousands of Georgia citizens expressed their dissatisfaction, 84 deputies voted in favor of the disputed legislation represented by the ruling party "Georgian Dream". It should be noted that 30 opposition deputies opposed its acceptance.
According to the new law, it provides for the creation of a register of "inagents", which will include all non-profit legal entities and media that receive funding from abroad of more than 20%. These entities will be obliged to publish annual financial statements.
Earlier, approximately 50,000 Georgia citizens were protesting against the law on "inaging" in Tbilisi. This is not the first time that residents of the country express their opinion on this controversial initiative of the authorities.
During the protests near the Parliament on May 13, Georgian Special forces used violence against protesters, and the deputies who arrived in the inner yard on cars met with the shouts of "slaves".
