The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a bill that regulates citizenship issues for the military who defend Ukraine and their loved ones. The law is intended to simplify the procedures for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship for certain categories of persons related to the protection of the state.
- The acquisition of citizenship for the spouse of the military of
the second spouse of a citizen of Ukraine, who passed or passed military service, as well as if the military died (died) in the performance of official duties, will have the right to file a declaration of refusal of foreign citizenship for the registration of Ukrainian citizenship. - Restoration of citizenship for foreigners who defended Ukraine
by foreigners who previously defended Ukraine and lost their citizenship, have been able to renew it. - Immigration quotas for reunification of families
The law provides for the establishment of special immigration quotas for foreigners who come to Ukraine for the purpose of reunification with military personnel.
The new law has received support among NGOs and activists. Its acceptance is considered an important step to support the military and their families, as well as for foreigners who fought for the freedom of Ukraine.
Alexei Goncharenko, MP, emphasized the importance of this law to improve the legal protection of the defenders of the state and their loved ones.
