The first impeachment in South Korea

For the first time in the history of the country, the Parliament of South Korea declared impeachment to the current Prime Minister Khan Doku Su. At the initiative, they voted unanimously - 192 deputies supported the decision, none opposed.

Impeachment was initiated by the Opposition Democratic Party (SE), which has a majority in parliament, occupying 170 out of 300. The main reason for this decision was the unwillingness of the Prime Minister to fulfill the duties of the Presidential Acting, in particular to appoint additional judges to the Constitutional Court. This body is currently working with the minimum necessary composition of six judges, which complicates the consideration of key issues, including the impeachment of the current President, Yun Jol Jol.

The opposition also accused Khan Doc Su of involvement in the introduction of martial law at the initiative of the young president and refused to consider the drafi on a special prosecutor to investigate the actions of the young and first lady Kim Keon XI. The Democratic Party warned the premiere that initiates impeachment if it does not approve their candidates for the posts of judges of the Constitutional Court.

Khan Doc Su stated that he did not consider it possible to make such decisions without reaching consent between all political parties. The refusal to comply with the requirements of the opposition has eventually led to the Parliament decision on impeachment.

This event is unprecedented in the political history of South Korea. The Constitutional Court should now make a final decision on the legality of impeachment, which can significantly affect the political situation in the country.
