A penguin from Antarctica traveled 3000 km and reached New Zealand

Penguin Adelie, known as Ping, made an unexpected journey, separating from his bird family and overcoming the striking distance of 3200 km. This vibrant bird appeared on the Beach of the city of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand, where it was noticed by a local resident of Harry Singh.

Adelie penguins are known for their skill in swimming, the ability to overcome up to 300 km in search of food, but rarely leave their traditional places in Antarctic. According to experts, only two similar cases were recorded earlier - in 1962 (with tragic conclusion) and 1993 (with a successful result).

Singh first noticed a penguin on the coast and initially considered it a toy. However, recognizing a living creature, he caused rescuers to protect the bird from possible dangers. Ping was tired, hungry and dehydrated, and was temporarily taken care of, providing the necessary help.

After a night, ping for marine animals was able to restore the strength and taste the fish strip. After that, he was released on the wild beach of the Banks Peninsula. The Nature Security Department of New Zealand shared a video that shows a joyful moment when the ping, liberated from the cage, jumps into the ocean under the noise of the waves.

Adelie penguins, as other representatives of their species, are known for their sociability and the ability to combine into groups of sea ice. These birds also create noisy colonies. Usually they spend most of their lives in the sea, hunting wings and small fish.
