After earthquakes in the Aegean Sea, Turkey is preparing for a possible tsunami

In the coastal areas of Turkey, a system of sirens is launched to warn about possible tsunami after a series of earthquakes in the Aegean Sea. Special groups of management of catastrophes and emergencies of Turkey (AFAD) arrived in the Bodrum region, as well as the coastal cities of Seferichisar, Didim and Datcha.

According to AFAD, the last earthquake occurred 140 km from the shores of Turkey in the area of Kolumbo underwater volcano. The department was warned that in the case of its eruption, a tsunami may occur, which will reach the Turkish coast.

Earthquakes in the Aegean Sea have not subsided from the end of January. The impetus has already felt the residents of the Greek island of Santorini, where, due to the threat of natural disaster, more than 13,000 people left their homes.

This is not the first time Turkey is faced with the large -scale consequences of seismic activity. Two years ago, on February 6, 2023, the country stirred powerful magnitude earthquakes 7.7 and 7.6, which took over 53.5 thousand people.

The Turkish authorities urge residents of coastal regions to be vigilant and ready for evacuation as needed.
