The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, during a visit to South Korea, tried to agree on the purchase of weapons, including anti -aircraft missiles and artillery units. However, the official Seoul refused to enforce the request because of legislation that prohibit the export of weapons to the countries where wars are ongoing.
The key reason for refusal is South Korea's policy, which strictly prohibits the supply of weapons to belligerents. Legislative restrictions remain unchanged, even against the background of the active participation of North Korea in the war against Ukraine, including the transfer of weapons of Russia.
The position of the country's population also affects the government's policy. According to local sources, most South Korea citizens oppose the direct supply of weapons to Ukraine, despite military cooperation between the DPRK and Russia.
The Ukrainian delegation did not seek free military assistance, but planned the purchase of weapons. This is not the first time that Ukraine is trying to attract Asia countries to support Russian aggression, in particular through the supply of modern weapons.
Despite the refusal, Kyiv continues to seek international support to strengthen its defense capability, especially in winter, when Ukraine's infrastructure becomes the main target of Russian attacks.
