North Korea has temporarily stopped receiving foreign tourists for a new Wonsan-Kalm beach resort on the east coast of the country. This decision was made shortly after the visit to the resort zone of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Bloomberg reports.
According to the National Tourism Department of the DPRK, the resort area that has started this month is not accepting foreign guests. More details about the reasons for this step have not been provided.
Vonsan-Kalm is one of the favorite projections of North Korean leader Kim Jong-in. The resort has about 7 thousand rooms in luxury hotels and private villas, open water park and its own airport. Kim Jong himself has a personal house on the coast and has repeatedly visited the construction site to personally control the project implementation process.
During his trip to the DPRK, Sergei Lavrov visited Vonsan and met with a North Korean colleague. He stated that Russia would do everything possible to increase the flow of Russian tourists to the country.
There are currently no official explanations about the reasons for the temporary closure of the resort for foreigners.
