During the two years of the functioning of the Pilot Project "Paid cameras in the pre -trial detention center" in Ukraine has raised UAH 21 million, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.
The received funds are used to repair free cameras in detention center. The paid camera, according to certain tariffs, provides its residents with improved living conditions, including the kettle, refrigerator and microwave.
In total, 28 detention facilities have been opened in Ukraine with improved conditions. Prices for rent of such cameras range from 4000 UAH to 14 000 UAH per month, with the highest tariffs in the Lukyanovsky detention center in Kiev - 2000 UAH per day.
The Ministry of Justice launched a project of paid cameras in May 2021, taking into account the experience of US private prisons. It was also reported that the average salary of convicts increased by 16% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
