A diplomatic row is unfolding between Poland and Hungary after the Hungarian government granted political asylum to Marcin Romanowski, a Polish lawmaker and former deputy minister of justice. Poland considers this decision as a hostile act.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, sharply condemned the actions of Viktor Orban's government. In his address on the X social network, he stated:
"We are considering the decision of Viktor Orban's government to grant political asylum to M. Romanowski, who is suspected of criminal offenses and wanted under a European arrest warrant, as an act hostile to the Republic of Poland and the principles of the European Union."
Marcin Romanovskyi is wanted on a European arrest warrant on suspicion of criminal offenses. Granting him political asylum was the reason for sharp criticism of Hungary's actions by Warsaw, which sees this decision as a threat to international relations and solidarity within the EU.
Sikorsky noted that the Polish government is preparing a response to Hungary's actions and will announce further steps on Friday, December 20. These actions may include diplomatic measures, consultations with EU partners or legal initiatives.
