Polish judge seeks asylum in Belarus: political persecution or strategy?

The Polish Judge Tomash Schmidt became the object of attention after he stated the desire to get asylum in Belarus because, he said, he became the object of persecution and threats in his own country because of his political position.

Local media transmit.

At a press conference in Minsk, Tomasz Schmidt, a judge of the 2nd Branch of the Voivodesk Administrative Court of Warsaw, stated that he left Poland because "he was persecuted and threatened for an independent political position."

He expressed his disagreement with the politics and actions of the authorities of Poland, who, in his opinion, under the influence of the United States and Great Britain, "lead the country to war."

And Lukashenko called "a very wise leader."

Earlier, he held various positions in the judicial system and justice bodies of Poland. He was the head of the legal department at the National Council of Judges of Poland.

Apparently, the basis of actions of a judge is related to political changes in Poland after the change of the government last year.

Schmidt was illuminated in a loud scandal a few years ago. The media wrote that he was part of a group of judges related to the then Deputy Minister of Justice of Poland Lukash Pebiak. They found a compromise on judges who opposed the judicial reform of the Government of the Law and Justice Party and then poured into open access.

Last year, Pis was defeated in the election and lost power. It is possible that Schmidt was frightened that he would now be mentioned by a scandal with a drain of compromise on judges.
