Over a million people in the Gaza Strip are at risk of starvation

The Gaza sector increases the acute shortage of food, which threatens its entire population, which is 2.23 million. According to new estimates of food security experts from the IPC committee (integrated classification of food security stages), more than one million people in the Gaza sector are in a situation resembling famine, which is twice as much as in December last year.

According to the IPC report, from mid -March to mid -July, with the most probable scenario, which involves escalation of the conflict, including a possible ground offensive in Rafah, one and a half million people, ie half of the population of the Gaza Sector, will be in catastrophic conditions of acute food danger (phase 5).

From the beginning of hostilities, which began on October 7 in response to attacks by Hamas, the Gaza Sector has a limited amount of food and other necessary goods. Almost all the necessary goods are imported through two checkpoints on the southern border of the sector, but since the beginning of hostilities, only a small part of the goods came north.

Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Program, which participated in the preparation of the IPC report, emphasized: “People in gas now die of hunger. Answer the speed with which this crisis of hunger has struck gas. Time is very little to prevent the head, so Late, thousands of people will die. ”
