Ukrainians have clarified how to properly use generators during the autumn and winter, when there is a threat of strikes of the Russian Federation into the energy system, which can cause possible shutdown of power supply.
Referring to the State Energy Supervision Inspectorate, it is important to use generators safely when installing them in private homes. False connection can lead to injuries and a fire.
The State Energy Inspectorate has developed recommendations for the safe use of generators in private homes, taking into account the general rules and requirements:
- Follow the instructions of the generator manufacturer.
- Generators are not intended for use in apartment buildings.
- Install outdoor generators at least 6 meters from windows and doors.
- The generator should be dry and isolated from water.
- Before refueling the generator should be cooled to avoid fire.
- Do not keep the stocks near the generator.
Regarding network connection and devices:
- Use electric extensions to safely place the generator in compliance with safety rules.
- Disconnect the building from external power grids when connecting the generator to the internal network to avoid short circuit and fire.
The State Energy Supervision also recommends that electricion work and the installation of the generator to experts, as improper connection can cause danger.
In concluding, the call from the State Energy Inspectorate is that Ukrainians observe safety rules and exercise caution when using generators.
