The Tuareg rebels, who successfully attacked the fighters of the "Wagner" PMK in Mali, confirmed the presence of contacts with Ukraine. The representative of the CSP-DPA movement, Mohamed Elmaulud Ramadan, told about this in an interview with the French publication Contre-Poison.
"Cooperation with the Ukrainians is at the first stage," Ramadan noted, indicating that contacts were established at the beginning of 2024. Although he did not specify specific levels of support from Ukraine, the rebel leader asked for military assistance, as well as training of fighters to effectively fight the Wagnerites.
"The fight against Russian imperialism is a global fight, because Russia poses a threat to the whole world," Ramadan emphasized. He called for joint efforts to counter Russia's influence in Africa.
Tuareg rebels from the CSP-DPA group are fighting for the independence of the Azawad region, which is the historical homeland of the Tuareg. In July 2024, it became known that the Ukrainian special services cooperated with the rebels in Mali, in particular, helping them operate drones.
Rebels recently destroyed a column of "Wagnerians" in the city of Tinzahuaten, which is near the border of Mali with Algeria. The battle, which continued on July 25 and 26, resulted in heavy losses among the fighters of the Wagner PMC, as a result of which Russia began to transfer additional forces to Mali.
This cooperation with the Ukrainian special services has become part of the global fight against Russian influence in the region and may strengthen the position of the Tuareg in the conflict on the African continent.
