The Prime Minister of Belgium received letters containing strychnine poison

Belgium Prime Minister Alexander de Kroo became the object of a serious threat after letters with a toxic substance-Strykhnin. This was reported by the Belgian Prosecutor's Office after receiving the results of the powder analyzes found in one of the letters.

On November 22, 2024, one of the employees of the Premier Office opened a letter and soon felt the ailment. The woman was immediately taken to the hospital where she was provided with the necessary help. Fortunately, her condition stabilized, and now she is feeling well.

Prime Minister Barend Leits said that the incident was shocking Alexander de Croo and his team. All possible measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of employees and prevent further threats.

The premiere office received three suspicious letters - November 20 and 22, as well as December 9. Two of them revealed strychnin - an extremely toxic substance that is deadly inhalation, inhalation, getting inside or contact with the skin. The investigation is ongoing, but no suspects have been arrested.

Strykhnin is a natural alkaloid that is obtained from the seeds of plants of the genus Strychnos, including chilibukhi. The substance has a strong effect on the central nervous system, causing convulsions, respiratory failure and even cardiac arrest. In the past, Stryhnin has been used as a rodent and medicine in very small doses.

Its toxicity and danger make such cases a serious threat to public safety.

The Belgian Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating this incident, in particular, the source of the origin of letters and the motives of criminals. The Prime Minister's office has intensified security measures, and employees are advised to be especially careful when working with correspondence.
