Czech Prime Minister Petr Fila Filage has a telephone conversation with the newly elected US President Donald Trump, during which the war in Ukraine was the main topic of discussion. Fiala noted that he was pleasantly surprised by the content of the conversation and Trump's interest in the Czech position.
"We discussed Prague's position on the Russian invasion, and then Trump spoke about his family ties with the Czech Republic, where his late wife Ivanna was born. Mr. Trump wanted to understand our point of view. I believe that he is very well aware that the situation in Ukraine - and in the Middle East - should be resolved."
The Czech Prime Minister was concerned about the possible scenarios for the end of the war. He stressed that the coercion of territorial concessions from Ukraine will only strengthen the Kremlin's aggression and strengthen the military car of Vladimir Putin. According to Fiali, such a development will resemble the Munich Agreement of 1938, when attempts to pacify the aggressor had catastrophic consequences.
"We are in a very difficult and dangerous situation that some rightly describe as the second Cold War. In our interests, have a strong America that will show its power in Russia, because it is the only chance to stop Putin. Europe's security simply cannot be secured by Russia that occupies part of Ukraine and continues its aggression.
This conversation demonstrates the importance of the role of the United States in global policy, especially in the context of war in Ukraine and its impact on the security of Europe. Fiala hopes for active support from the new American leader in counteracting Russian aggression.
