Finland President Alexander Stubb called for large -scale reforms within the UN Security Council, stating that the countries conducting illegal wars should be excluded from this body. In an interview with Reuters, Stubb stressed the need to exclude Russia from the Radbeza because of its aggression against Ukraine.
Stubb also proposed a radical reform of the Security Council, which envisages the deprivation of all Member States of the veto. He believes that this will help make the body more effective and fair. The President of Finland insists that the current composition of permanent members of the UN Security Council is outdated and should be updated.
In particular, Stubb proposes to expand the list of permanent members of the Security Council, including representatives of Latin America, Asia and Africa. This, in his opinion, will contribute to the involvement of the global south in global diplomatic processes and will not allow them to turn away from the United Nations.
One of the key ideas that Stubb voiced is the exclusion of aggressors from the Security Council. He emphasized that unlawful wars should not participate in global security decisions. In this context, he mentioned Russia that the war against Ukraine and called on the international community to support this initiative.
Stubb expressed his hope that this plan could be implemented to the 80th anniversary of the UN, which will be celebrated in 2025. He urged other states to actively join this initiative and help bring the necessary reforms.
