Turkish President Recep TaiP Erdogan expressed the dependence of the ratification of Sweden's accession to NATO on Canada's decisions and the United States of America. He stated that positive changes in US and Canada's decisions on weapons embargo on weapons can contribute to the faster ratification of Sweden's accession in the Turkish Parliament.
Erdogan also reported that he had discussed fighters in a telephone conversation with the US President and that both parties agreed that Turkey should decide to enter Sweden through Parliament. Baiden's administration has already approved the sale of the F-16 Turkey, but the decision in Congress is delayed through various issues, in particular, through the Turkey's game regarding Sweden's accession to NATO and human rights violations.
Turkey has been trying to get 40 fighter jets and almost 80 kits to modernize existing aircraft since 2021. Although Baiden's administration has already agreed to sell, discussions in Congress are ongoing, given the actions of Turkey.
It is known that Canada agreed to restore negotiations with Turkey to remove export control to drones and optical accessories after Turkey has undertaken not to block Sweden's entry into NATO.
