The fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, announced the creation of a "resistance platform", which should combine the country's opposition forces. It happened during the performance of Zurabishvili at an anti -government rally in Tbilisi on Monday, March 31. The country's leader has stated that the platform should become political formats that will support street protests and opposition requirements.
Zurabishvili emphasized that the new initiative was open to all pro -European parties and groups, which are ready to "postpone political differences" and unite to achieve two basic demands of protesters. Among them is the appointment of new parliamentary elections and the release of political prisoners.
"This is the only way that will achieve justice and support democratic values," she said in her speech.
Despite the fact that the creation of the platform was supported by many opposition figures, some of them have found dissatisfaction and criticism against the president. They demanded that Zurabishvili apologize for her previous statements about the August war of 2008, during which she openly accused her former President Mikhail Saakashvili.
These differences between individual opposition groups indicate the complexity of consolidation within a single platform that should combine different political currents.
The anti -government rally in Tbilisi ended with the launch of pyrotechnics towards the Parliament building. However, despite the incident, the police did not apply force against activists, which, according to the protest organizers, indicates the peaceful nature of protests.
Zurabishvili has called for peaceful and constructive actions to achieve its political goals, but the future of this platform will remain in question because of internal differences among opposition forces.
